Sleep Medicine Associates, P.C.
Office Consultations

It is the priority of the practice to provide the highest level of care to patients seeking help for sleep disorders. This is best accomplished through direct patient contact in the context of office consultation and follow-up visits.

Individuals referred to Sleep Medicine Associates, P.C. for an evaluation of suspected sleep disorder will be given an appointment to see Dr. David Cocanower, or may see Lindsay Lang, nurse practitioner, to reduce the time from referral to visit. An initial consultation is performed to determine the nature of the sleep complaint and problem. A sleep study may then be ordered, if appropriate, to evaluate the sleep problem further. A return appointment will be made to review the study results, and to discuss treatment options, if necessary. It is a priority of the practice to schedule studies, and return visits in a timely fashion to expedite diagnosis and treatment. It is expected that patients will keep appointment dates given them. The “no show” policy of the practice includes a charge for failed sleep study appointments that may be assessed if 48-hour notice is not given for appointments missed.

Some patients may be referred directly by their physician for a sleep study, without first seeing a sleep physician (“direct referral patients”). Information about sleep disorders, and about their lab testing, results, and treatment is available online for these patients. It is the practices’ recommendation that all patients studied in the laboratory be seen be seen by Dr. Cocanower in consultation, or Lindsay Lang, NP for follow-up to facilitate the highest level of sleep care.
